Nigerian musician, David Adeleke, professionally known as Davido, has opened up on why he chose not to pay tribute to Ifeanyi Adeleke, his late son, in his new album, ‘Timeless’.
Davido’s fans had thought the album would focus on the singer’s late son. However, Davido chose to be more entertaining with the album.
Speaking on Monday during a press conference ahead of the upcoming ‘Timeless’ concert scheduled for April 23 in Lagos, Davido explained that his goal was to release a classic album with minimal or no emotional songs to prevent followers from being emotional over the loss of his son.
He said, ”people who have been following songs for years can attest to this. I have always been a happy person, regardless of what I may be going through.
”If sad songs are to come, it will be an entirely different project on its own as I never had plans of combining them.”
'Timeless' was released on March 31 to critical acclaim.
The album broke the record for the biggest debut week on Spotify Nigeria and the biggest first-day streams on Boomplay. Also, Apple Music revealed that the album set a record as the most first-day streams ever for an African album.
