The presiding magistrate of the Asokore Mampong District Court has cautioned the family and friends of a 26-year-old lady, allegedly murdered by a police inspector, to avoid complicating matters for the police and the court.
The advice from His Worship Buabin Quansah comes as police struggled to bring to order the family of Victoria Dapaah, when the main accused person made his second appearance in court.
It took a police reinforcement team to bring sanity to the court premises as a search was conducted on all visitors to the court.
The Presiding Magistrate appealed to the family to cooperate with the court, police and the Attorney-General’s Office to bring finality to the case.
“You should be mindful. Don’t make things difficult for the police and the court,” he said.
“When you meet your relatives, especially those who are not in court but are outside, explain how the police, court and the A-G are resolved to bring finality to this case to them,” he added.
Mr. Quansah remanded the accused person into prison custody to reappear on June 20, 2023, as the A-G’s office prepares the Bill of Indictment.
Meanwhile, the family of the late Victoria Dapaah says they are satisfied with the proceedings so far.
An uncle, Kwame Adubofuor, says the latest development is enough assurance for the family that the case would be adjudicated speedily.
“We have high hope that justice would be served in earnest. Even the words of the Police Prosecutor are enough for us. Initially, we thought the case would suffer delays at the District Court before the committal proceedings at the High Court.
“Secondly, the Prosecutor says the accused has been charged with murder. This is enough assurance that trial could commence in earnest,” he said.
Inspector Ahmed Twumasi, also known as Tycoon, attached to the SWAT Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, went into hiding after allegedly shooting to death his girlfriend at Adum on April 20, 2023.
The married officer was arrested during a police-specialized operation at Oyoko near Effiduase.
The accused told the court that the deceased failed to pay GH 5,000 she owed him, resulting in the shooting.
