The Ghana athletics team amassed 24 medals to top the medal table at the just ended CAA Region II Senior Athletics Championships, in Lome, Togo over the weekend.
Ghana won 14 gold medals, 8 silver and 2 bronze, competing in 8 different events at the 14-nation competition.
Ghana made a huge impression on Day 1 with 12 medals, headlined by sprint doubles in both the men and women's 100m events. The team then added another 12 medals on Day 2 to finish top of the medal table ahead of Togo, Cote d'Ivoire, Burkina Faso and the rest.
Raymond French (45.72s PB) and Solomon Diafo( 45.85s) came 1st and 2nd respectively in the men’s 400m finals, and became the first locally-based athletes to run sub 46s in the event.
The duo then teamed up with Florence Agyemang and Rafiatu Nuhu, who had also won silver and bronze in their individual 400m events, to anchor Ghana to gold in the 4x400m mixed relay event.

Ghana also claimed sprint doubles in the 100m events in both the men and women categories, with Barnabas Aggerh (10.40) and Sarfo Ansah (10.49) taking gold and silver in the men's event, while Sandra K. Asibuo (11.82) and Janet Mensah (11.83) came 1st and 2nd in the women’s 100m win Gold
and Silver for Ghana.

The women's quartet of Rafiatu Nuhu, Sandra K. Asibuo, Janet Mensah, and Florence Agyemang claimed gold in the women's 4x100m relays (46.08s) while the men’s 4x100m relay team managed a 2nd place finish to claim silver with a time of 39.71s
