The decision to deliver a baby through caesarean section or opt for a vaginal delivery is a significant choice for expectant mothers.
While vaginal delivery is a natural and most common method of childbirth, an increasing number of women are opting for caesarean section.
Caesarean section was dangerous when it started in the 1500s in Switzerland when one Jacob Neufer performed it on his wife.
But over the years, regional anaesthesia has also developed and become a popular method of relieving pain and improving outcomes after caesarean section.
The World Health Organisation recommends that caesarean section should be performed only when medically necessary.
But many mothers say they feared vaginal tears, hence opt for caesarean section.
According to an obstetrician at Ellimas Hospital Dr Padi Ayerteh women who choose elective CS "are scared of the pronged labour."
He advised women to be open-minded about childbirth methods and engage medical professionals to help them choose the best method to protect their lives as well as their babies.
The medical doctor also advised people to consult their doctors when making decisions such as these during pregnancy.
