Climate Clock Ambassador Okyeame Kwame has put together a number of activities to mark World Climate Emergency Day.
On Saturday July 22 2023, the Climate Clock will tick down below six years for the first time.
Meaning, we will have less than six years to dramatically reduce fossil fuel emissions to stay below 1.5C degrees warming.
On July 22nd, people around the world will mark this moment with synchronized actions, bringing clocks from climate impact zones to the halls of power, demanding that governments and corporations #ActInTime to meet our climate deadline, and enact the real, system-wide solutions we need.
In tandem with this, Okyeame Kwame, has began a campaign to raise climate awareness and tree planting activities in schools to combat climate degradation and encourage students to make climate smart decisions.
On Friday, July 14th, Okyeame and his team visited Kwabenya Senior High School.
In a brief video he posted on his Instagram reels, students are seen dancing and chanting to his hit song, ‘Yeeko,’ and responding to his question, “Who wants to be a Climate Champion?”
He posed this question after educating them on global warming and explaining the significance of the climate clock.
Okyeame Kwame has pledged to visit 100 schools in all 16 regions with the goal of creating climate champions to increase climate consciousness among the youth. Specific trees are planted in the schools and named after students who make a solemn promise to care for and protect those trees .
The Okyeame Kwame Foundation and Climate Clock have planned the following events for the week:
July 14th - Visit to Kwabenya Senior High School.
July 19th - Visit to Saint John’s Grammar School in Achimota.
July 20th - Visit to Kaneshie Cluster of Schools with the Mayor of Accra, Hon. Elizabeth Naa Kwatsoe Tawia Sackey.
July 21st - A walk from Accra Metropolitan Assembly through High Street to Parliament.
July 22nd - A countdown on Okyeame Kwame’s social media pages as the clock counts down to the 5-year deadline. This will be followed by a Twitter space conversation later in the day to bring stakeholders into the discussion.

In an interview with Ibrahim Ben Bako, Okyeame requested that he needs people to join the July 21st morning walk and also needs volunteers to support the campaign. Interested schools and individuals can visit www.okworld.com.gh/climatechampions to sign up.
Okyeame Kwame will also host a Twitter Spaces conversation on climate change on Saturday, July 22 at 8pm.
Okyeame Kwame is an exemplary musician and icon who should be commended for his love for nature and Ghana’s development.
