The Minority Chief whip, Kwame Governs Agbodza has accused the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Ernest Addison of misusing over $250 million dollars, an equivalent of GH¢2.8 billion to build a new central bank headquarters.
The Adaklu MP claims that this new building is near the Ridge Hospital in Accra. The revelation comes at a time when managers of the bank have been heavily criticized for its losses totalling GHS60 billion cedis.
“Which of you would believe that a Bank of Ghana in this level of crisis, self-inflicted will be building a $250 million new headquarters…as if something is wrong with the old headquarters.
“You are broke, you have actually collapsed the economy, the next thing you would do is to award a $250 million project, and guess what, that project is one of the fastest-going projects in this country. Not hospital project, not education project, not road project. The fastest-going project in this country is the construction of Bank of Ghana head office,” he disclosed while speaking during NDC’s Moment of Truth press briefing on Tuesday, August 8.
The legislator then blamed the governor for deliberately causing the central bank and the country to go bankrupt.
Additionally, the Minority leader, Dr Cassiel Ato-Forson who also spoke during the press briefing demanded that Mr Addison and his deputies should resign from office within 21 days.
“We have stated here today that we have given him 21 days as the main opposition party for him to pack his bags and leave that sacred place called Bank of Ghana.”
The NDC emphasised that should the governor refuse to heed the warning by the party, they will picket at the Bank of Ghana until the governor resigns.
Mr Agboza also made it known that the NDC is “capable of deploying actions that will get him [Ernest Addison] out of office by force if he refuses to go within the 21 days.
