CEO of Ghana Tourism Authority, Mr. Akwasi Agyeman says he is yet to confirm if Ghana would host Afro Nation this year.
Afro Nation, which is an annual three-day music festival is produced by American events promoter, Live Nation, Event Horizon, Smade Entertainment and Memories of Tomorrow.
In an interview on Hitz FM with Andy Dosty, Mr. Agyeman said the Ghana Tourism Authority is not the organiser of the music festival but partners of the event.
He disclosed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed for Afro Nation to be hosted for five years in Ghana.
Out of the five-year agreement, the festival only occurred twice in 2019 and the recent one in 2022 in Ghana.
Mr. Agyeman said he reached out to Afro Nation but he did not receive a certain answer as to whether it would be hosted in Ghana or not.
Meanwhile, on June 9, 2023, the organisers of the festival announced Afro Nation Nigeria, a new series of the Festival to be held in Nigeria.
The CEO also said the festival had issues of event location not being beach fronted, unenclosed areas and people trooping in which resulted in the shutdown of the recent one in 2022.
“It is not a train wreck, it is not the end of the world, we will go on our December in GH,” Mr. Agyeman said.
“There are enough events that are attracting people to Ghana,” he said.
Mr. Agyeman said they still have engagements with Afro Nation and while the GTA is not the organiser of the show, they have kept an open conversation with the organisers.
