Odotobri Rural Bank in the Ashanti Region is enhancing operations in its catchments to improve banking in the target market.
Aside from increasing the bank's branches, new products are being rolled out to achieve set targets.
Board Chairman, Dr. Kwaku Mensah Bonsu, explains the Bank's objective is in line with the government's financial inclusion agenda.
“People need to go very far to get a bank in some places. There is a need to come closer to these clients so it is one of the strategies we are considering”, he said.
He was speaking at the commissioning of the fourteenth branch at Tutuka in the Obuasi Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
Financial inclusion contributes to economic growth by stimulating entrepreneurship and increasing savings.
Despite enhanced financial education, the majority of Ghana’s population remains unbanked largely due to inaccessibility.
This has limited financing for most small and medium-scale enterprises in the country.
Dr. Kwaku Mensah Bonsu, says roping more people into banking will help drive development.
"Expanding our reach means a lot more of the population will get access to our services. It can help drive development in these area," he added.
In 2022, the Odotobri Rural Bank increased profit margin from 4.1 million to 4.6 million cedis mainly driven by business at the only branch at Obuasi.
“As the customer base of the Bank kept increasing, it was imperative to expand the Bank’s operational coverage. It will also open the Bank to more business and stay in profitability”, he emphasized
