Medeama have become the first Ghanaian team to reach the group stage of the CAF Champions League in 11 years.
The Ghana champions confirmed their place in group stage of the 2023/24 edition after beating Horoya 4-3 on aggregate over the two legs in the second round of the preliminary qualifiers.
Berekum Chelsea is the last Ghanaian club to reach the group phase of the premiere club football competition in Africa back in 2012.
Despite suffering a 2-1 defeat to the Guinean team in the reverse fixture on Saturday in Conakry, the Yellow and Mauves still sailed through because of their convincing 3-1 win from the first leg played at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium two weeks ago.
Medeama took the lead 24 minutes into the game through a Jonathan Sowah penalty but the home side equalised two minutes later through Ocansey Mandela.
Horoya scored again in the 70th minute through Mohammed Keita to win the game 2-1, but it was not enough to see them overturn the 3-1 deficit from the first leg.
