The Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Sammy Awuku, has been unanimously endorsed as the 2024 Parliamentary Candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Akropong Constituency in the Eastern region.
Mr, Awuku who was the only person to have filed his nomination to contest the primary for the constituency, was acclaimed by the party on Saturday at a ceremony held at the Presbyterian College of Education.
His acclamation comes on the back of the decision of the incumbent NPP MP, Nana Ama Dokua Asiama-Adjei to switch to the Okaikoi North Constituency of the Greater Accra Region.
The acclamation ceremony held at the Presbyterian College of Education in Akropong was attended by party bigwigs including Michael Otchere Baafi, MP for New Juaben South and Deputy Trade Minister, Jeff Konadu Addo, the Eastern Regional Chairman of the party, and some ministers of state and national party executives.
Addressing the delegates after his acclamation, Mr Awuku, a former National Organizer of the party said his acclamation is call to service.
"I believe this allows me to contribute towards the growth and development of the area. It will be an honour to represent the interests, concerns, and aspirations of the constituents. This is a call to service."
“It has been a long journey. Over ten to eleven years, together with a few friends, we started this. Wonderful people, they rallied behind me. We engaged the party people, and they kept saying that I would be given the opportunity when the time comes”he stated
Mr Awuku promised to spearhead development in the area and unite the party front when elected as the MP after the 2024 general election.
"We will ensure that development in the areas of roads, health, potable water, electricity. All those who left come home, let’s work together, I will be a candidate for all the people, and I want to be an MP when elected for all"he said.
