Ghanaian highlife musician K.K. Fosu has reaffirmed his intention to contest the Akuapem North parliamentary seat as an independent candidate in the 2028 general election, insisting he is confident of defeating incumbent Member of Parliament Sammy Awuku.

Speaking to Adu Kumi on Asempa Showbiz, the musician said he would not be intimidated by Awuku’s political influence or party affiliation.

“If Sammy Awuku likes, he should leave the NPP and come to meet me face-to-face. I am going as independent candidate,” he said.

When the host suggested that Sammy Awuku would have the edge because he represents the New Patriotic Party (NPP), K.K. Fosu replied: “the NPP is even dead. That is what people say.”

In his response, Sammy Awuku also wrote on Facebook: "KK Fosu, m'aya da. Please get me a campaign track before you pick the nomination forms. Nice weekend bro."

K.K. Fosu first announced his intention to enter parliamentary politics ahead of the 2024 general election. However, he did not file his nomination to contest the seat, explaining that a motor accident prevented him from going ahead with his plans.

He also disclosed that when he learnt Sammy Awuku would be contesting on the ticket of the NPP, he decided to step aside.

Sammy Awuku, a former National Organiser of the NPP, won the party’s parliamentary primary for Akuapem North in January 2024 before going on to win the seat in the December 2024 general election. He succeeded Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei, who had represented the constituency since 2017.

K.K. Fosu had publicly declared his political ambition in 2023, stating that he wanted to represent the people of Akuapem North in Parliament. Although he did not eventually contest, he has maintained his interest in entering active politics.
