Care for Free and Fair Elections Ghana (CARE GHANA) is urging the Electoral Commission (EC) to promptly conduct a parliamentary election in the Guan constituency.
The group has voiced concern over what they perceive as significant delays by the EC in organising elections in the Constituency.
They assert that this prolonged delay not only undermines the democratic rights of the residents but also severely impedes their ability to advocate for essential development projects and access government resources.
CARE GHANA emphasised the urgency of conducting the Guan elections while also preparing for the Ejisu by-election following the passing of their Member of Parliament, John Kumah.
They stress the importance of ensuring that all constituencies have representation in Parliament to uphold democratic principles and promote effective governance.
"Care for Free and Fair Elections Ghana (“CARE” GHANA) writes to express a matter of grave concern regarding the representation of the Guan Constituency in Parliament, which encompasses communities including Santrokofie, Akpafu Likpe, and Lolobi, formally known as SALL.
"It has come to our attention that despite repeated appeals and reminders, there has been a significant delay in organising elections in the Guan Constituency."
"This delay does not only undermines the democratic rights of the people residing in these communities but also severely hampers their ability to have a voice in advocating for essential development initiatives and accessing government resources."
