The campaign team of a former New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP and independent presidential candidate Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, says that the electorate is prepared to defend their ballots in the upcoming Ejisu by-election.
The attempt by the former MP, who has severed ties with the NPP to stage a comeback threatens the party's grip on the constituency.
His team alleges that the NPP is scheming to secure victory through dubious means in the upcoming by-election.
Speaking at a press conference, the campaign coordinator, Isaac Boafo, outlined the NPP's alleged tactics, including ballot box stuffing, bribing Electoral Commission officials and using military personnel to intimidate Mr Aduomi's strongholds.
“Allegations of bribing Electoral Commission officials to compromise on voting day, a despicable act that strikes at the heart of democracy and utilisation of military personnel to intimidate strongholds of Honourable Owusu Aduomi, a clear abuse of power aimed at suppressing the will of the people.”
He condemned the deployment of police officers from different regions to control ballot boxes as a violation of electoral norms.
Mr Boafo warned of potential power outages during vote counting and criticised the use of tough guys to snatch ballot boxes as an assault on the electoral process's sanctity.
“Ejisu will make a resounding statement on Tuesday, reaffirming our commitment to democracy and justice.
“NPP knows that their candidate stands no chance in this by-election and for which reason they have resorted to telling wicked lies and digging dirt on Hon Owusu Aduomi,” he added.
