The Births and Deaths Registry says out of the 677,140 births registered in 2022, 82.2% representing 556,901 had the occupation of the fathers recorded.
Out of the top 20 occupations, farmers (190,787) recorded the single largest births of 28.2 per cent, while traders, drivers, teachers and business men followed with 10.3%, 10.1%, 5.7% and 5.4% respectively.
Policemen had the lowest number of births of 0.6 per cent.
The report further indicated that about 2,099 registered births had doubtful paternity. These cases represent instances where the identity of the father is unknown or remains uncertain.
Meanwhile, the report revealed an increasing trajectory of births over the years. The yearly registered birth have increased by almost 41% since 2010 from 479,717 births to 677,140 in 2022.Â
This means on average about 1855 births were registered daily across the country.
The recorded births, however, was below the projected births of 730,592.
