Journalist and private legal practitioner Samson Lardy Anyenini has called for an inquiry into allegations of misconduct by Attorney General Godfred Dame amid the ongoing trial of Cassiel Ato Forson and businessman Richard Jakpa in the ambulance case.
Speaking on PM Express on JoyNews, Anyenini emphasised the need for a commission of inquiry to investigate the allegations against Mr Dame following the release of an alleged conversation between the AG and Mr Jakpa.
He believes this formal process is necessary to bring resolution and prevent partisan disputes between the NDC and the NPP.
“I believe that to get to a fruitful end, there ought to be a process that formally interrogates this thing and brings us the results, so that it is not left to the NDC and the NPP to be, as it were, exchanging words and so on.”
“Certain things have become clear on the back of the release of the tape and the information that accompanies the tape. Things that were denied appear established. Things that were partially denied appear established. But I still hold the view that you need a formal process, procedure, an inquiry of sorts that will bring a resolution,” Mr Anyenini said.
He stated that he noted that an inquiry would not only be good in the interest of all the parties involved but also in the interest of the Office of the Attorney General, and the criminal justice delivery system.
This comes after the National Democratic Congress (NDC) released what it claims to be an audio recording of a conversation between the Attorney General, Godfred Dame and the third accused person in the controversial ambulance purchase trial, Richard Jakpa.
This follows claims by the third accused, Richard Jakpa that the Attorney General had previously approached him to help build a case against the former Deputy Finance Minister.
Mr Jakpa said in open court that the Attorney-General had on several occasions engaged him at odd hours to incriminate the first accused and Minority Leader, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson.
A statement signed by Deputy Attorney-General, Alfred Tuah Yeboah, however, dismissed the claims.
But at a press conference today, Tuesday, May 28, the NDC played a tape purportedly containing the voices of the two individuals.
The party said the 16-minute long audio is the first of many such pieces of evidence they would be releasing subsequently.
However, the NPP dismissed the tape as doctored. According to the NPP, the alleged conversation between Mr Jakpa and Mr Dame was fabricated by the NDC.
“The alleged conversation is supposed to last for 26 minutes, but the NDC schemed to play only 16 minutes. The question is where is the rest of the tape.”
Addressing the press on Tuesday, May 28, in response to the NDC's revelations, NPP legal practitioner, Frank Davies stated that the tape contained repetitions, overlaps, and voice distortions.
He claimed that the NDC had spent the past days manipulating the alleged tape they played.
Meanwhile, Security Analyst Dr Adam Bonaa has refuted claims by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that the tape recording between Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame and the third accused in the ambulance case, Richard Jakpa, is doctored.
According to him, the sequencing, tone, and other indicators of the recording shared by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) show no signs of tampering.
Speaking on PM Express on JoyNews, he said "Anyone who understands how bugging or recording is done knows this was a direct recording. When I say direct recording, there is very minimal noise, just like a normal telephone conversation. It was a P2P (peer-to-peer) recording, not where you call me, and I set up another recorder somewhere, put it on loudspeaker, and then use the third-party device to record."
