The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), has announced Lord Paul Yaw Boateng, a Member of the House of Lords in the United Kingdom, as the keynote speaker for its 2024 Annual Leadership Lecture.

The public lecture is scheduled for Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at 10:00 am at the Kofi Ohene Konadu Auditorium on the UPSA campus.

This event provides an intellectual platform for distinguished speakers worldwide to examine and discuss critical global and national issues, offering suggestions for Ghana’s sustainable development.

This year’s theme is "Fulfilling the Promise – The Challenge of Leadership: Moving from Rhetoric to Delivery."

Open to the public, the lecture is expected to draw a diverse audience from academia, industry, politics, traditional authority, and civil society.

Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with Lord Boateng on the crucial issues facing leaders today and the practical steps needed to fulfil the promise of leadership in transformative ways.

Previous distinguished speakers at the UPSA Annual Leadership Lecture include Dr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson, and renowned economist Kwame Pianim.

About Lord Paul Boateng

Lord Paul Boateng is a globally renowned diplomat, lawyer, and politician with extensive experience in government and public service.

He made history as the first person of African descent to serve in a British cabinet when he was appointed Chief Secretary to the Treasury in 2002, later becoming Minister of State for Police and Prisons.

In 2005, Lord Boateng returned to Africa as the UK's High Commissioner to South Africa and the Prime Minister's Special Representative to the Africa Commission, playing a pivotal role in promoting cooperation and development in the region.

Beyond government, Lord Boateng has held significant corporate positions, including Senior Independent Director and Chair of the Nominations and Remuneration Committee of the Ghana International Bank.

He also chairs Water and Sanitation for the Urban Poor, a development utilities advisory company supporting underserved communities in Africa and Bangladesh.

Passionate about community relations, youth development, and the performing arts, Lord Boateng chairs the Church of England's Archbishops Commission on Racial Justice and co-chairs the Grenfell Tower Memorial Commission.

He also serves on the board of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Ballet Rambert.
