A police officer who has been identified as Stephen Nii Quaye, stationed at Winneba Divisional Police Command in the Central Region has died after a Kia truck crashed him at the Gomoa Mpota Checkpoint on the Kasoa Winneba highway in the Central Region
The unfortunate incident occurred around 11:00 pm on Friday, June 21.
Sources say the police had stopped a car at the checkpoint while a Kia truck from behind crashed him.

Information gathered indicates that the sleeping Kia Driver first hit two cars before hitting the metal at the police checkpoint and running over the officer.
Eyewitnesses say the cars involved are a Kia truck with registration number GR-6419-N, a trailer with registration number GE-5468-22, and a fuel tanker GY-2186-13.

In an interview with Adom News, an eyewitness Joseph Asamoah said, that after the accident, the Kia Truck driver admitted that he was sleeping.
Three persons who were on board the Kia truck got injured and are all receiving treatment at the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased police officer has been deposited at the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital mortuary for autopsy and preservation as investigations proceed.
