Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has stated that he will continue to work with the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) if re-elected as president.
He told journalists he plans to strengthen the office if elected president in the upcoming elections.
Speaking at his latest Mahama Conversations in Accra on Sunday, July 7, Mr Mahama emphasised his commitment to enhancing the OSP's effectiveness.
Established in 2018, the OSP is the gold standard for independent anti-corruption efforts in Ghana, aligning with the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC).
Its mandate includes investigating and prosecuting corruption cases, recovering illicit assets, and implementing preventive measures.
Mr. Mahama reiterated his support for the OSP, highlighting his intention to provide additional measures and resources to bolster the office's operations and ensure its success in combating corruption.
Meanwhile, he announced that his administration would establish a value-for-money audit for contracts exceeding GH¢5 million.
“We will set up an independent value-for-money office to scrutinise all government procurements above a $5 million threshold or as shall be recommended by Parliament.”
