The Minister for Local Government and Decentralisation, Martin Adjei Mensah-Korsah, has praised President Nana Akufo-Addo for launching the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP).
The Minister described the initiative as unprecedented in Ghana's history and a testament to President Akufo-Addo's dedication to the effective functioning of district assemblies.
Speaking at the launch held at the Black Star Square on Wednesday, July 31, Minister Adjei Mensah-Korsah called on Ghanaians to commend the president for this significant achievement.
He emphasised that the DRIP showcases the president's commitment to enhancing local infrastructure and development.
In his address, the Minister, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Techiman South, urged Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to adhere to established procedures in utilising the equipment provided through the programme.
He reassured the public that adequate training has been provided to personnel who will operate the machines, ensuring its effective and efficient use.
Minister Adjei Mensah-Korsah stressed the importance of the DRIP and the government's efforts to empower local assemblies with the necessary tools and skills to improve infrastructure and development across Ghana.
"Mr. President, the biggest threat I must say, there is to this project is lack of proper maintenance and misuse especially for private endeavours. Through the Programme we have taken steps to train operators, drivers and technicians as part of the overall implementation of the maintenance protocols and to ensure successful implementation of DRIP."
"We have established stringent monitoring controls both digitally and by a well-crafted team made up of stakeholder Ministries and would demand strict compliance. This is to ensure the sustainability of the Programme and the proper use of these equipment," he said.
