Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has weighed in on the controversy surrounding Dan Botwe being sidelined as the campaign chairman for Dr. Bawumia's campaign team.
According to him, the former Local Government Minister has been undermined by elements within his own party, despite being someone of impeccable character.
Addressing party faithful at Nsutam in the Okyere constituency, where Mr. Botwe is the Member of Parliament, the NDC chairman expressed surprise that a person of Dan Botwe’s caliber has been given a raw deal by certain individuals within the party who see him as a threat to their political ambitions.
Mr. Nketia alleged that the move to set him up for failure began when he was appointed Local Government Minister but was denied the necessary resources to effectively run the ministry.
"I know Dan Botwe, he's a very good man ,he is one person who performs well in any responsibility given him but it's unfortunate he's been set up to fail by some elements within the party who think his presence could affect their political gains since he was given the position of the campaign chairman.
"They begun undermining him and usurping his authority as the campaign head right after he was appointed. When was the last time you heard him speak?"
"They did the same thing to him at the local government ministry when all the chunk of the ministry's money was given to the sanitation ministry under Cecelia Dapaah who kept it under her bed so he couldn't run the ministry as I know he would have done," he alleged
A few weeks ago media reports suggested that Dan Botwe,a former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party had vacated his position as the Chairman of the NPP flagbeareer's campaign team for being sidelined in the prosecution of the campaign.
Mr Asiedu Nketia on the back of this is claiming that there are some elements who wants Dan Botwe to fail so after the elections and NPP doesn't win they could say " we told you he will fail."
