A Deputy General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to uphold transparency and adhere strictly to electoral procedures.
He criticised the EC for not providing crucial documents promptly during the recent voter registration process.
Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show on August 30, he said, “What I will call on the Electoral Commission to do is to stay true to the rules of the game. When we were going to do the registration of voters, we needed to have received people who were going to supervise the registration within a time frame which we didn’t receive. We also needed the registers within a time frame for registration but we didn’t receive them.”
Mr Mohammed further urged the EC to ensure that all necessary documentations are shared with political parties on time.
“I will call on the Electoral Commission to make sure that documentation and presentations to parties are given on time," he said.
In addition, he stated that political parties should be cautious in their criticism of the Commission.
“We have made proposals and when we wrote the stolen verdict, it changed the electoral process in this country. It changed it completely. The current biometric register system that we are using is a result of our championing democratic credentials. You can also do that.”
