The Deputy Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC) in charge of Corporate Services, Dr Bossman Asare has reaffirmed the commission's commitment to ensuring free and fair elections.
According to him, the EC will not shield any electoral officer who engages in malpractice during the upcoming polls.
Speaking at a press briefing on September 2, he said “The commission will like to assure the public that it will not shield any of its officers both permanent and temporary found complicit and any electoral malpractices and would allow such persons to face the full rigorous of the law.”
His assurance comes in response to several concerns raised by political parties, including the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The NDC has expressed doubts about the EC's ability to organise elections free of partiality.
However, Mr Asare assured that the EC has Ghana's best interests at heart and would in no way undermine the peace of the country.
