Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has thrown more light on his new policy of ‘Buy Ghana First’, which he intends to implement if he is elected president to form the next government.
Addressing community stakeholders of the Okaikoi Central Constituency in Accra on Wednesday, Dr. Bawumia explained that the Buy Ghana First policy is aimed at garnering support and patronage for local industries and the private sector.
"I hear we are currently buying school uniforms from China. That will not happen under the Buy Ghana First policy," Dr. Bawumia said.
"We will also ensure that furniture for schools are not imported from other countries."
"Whatever we can buy from Ghana, we will buy them here to help boost our local industries, the private sector and create more jobs for our people."
For nearly an hour, Dr. Bawumia took time to explain his vision and policies to the audience, made up of the clergy, imams, traditional rulers, traders, community members, etc.
Among the policies Dr. Bawumia explained is a new tax regime, which will see the granting of tax amnesty to businesses and an introduction of a flat tax rate, the strengthening of the gold for oil policy, the introduction of solar energy to ease the cost of power, electric buses for public transport to ease the cost of transportation, a new mining regime to empower small scale miners and ensure responsible mining, and training of one million youth in ICT for digital jobs locally and abroad.
