The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has commended the government's initiatives aimed at supporting cocoa farmers, describing them as unparalleled in Ghana's history.
He noted that the price of a bag of cocoa has surged from GH¢475 to GH¢3,000 during the NPP administration, highlighting the significance of this increase for the livelihoods of cocoa producers.
During a stakeholder engagement event in the Wassa East constituency, Dr. Bawumia emphasised that the rising cocoa prices reflect the NPP government's unwavering commitment to enhancing the agricultural sector.
He underscored the importance of cocoa farming to Ghana's economy, stating that it serves as the backbone of the nation's agricultural industry.
The Vice President acknowledged the crucial role that cocoa farmers play in the economy and reiterated the government's dedication to implementing policies that uplift and support them.
He believes that the substantial increase in cocoa prices is vital for improving the financial stability of these farmers.
“Chiefs, if you look at the work we have done in the agaric sector, we have done a lot. Cocoa farmers are our witnesses."
“Today a bag of cocoa has risen to GH3000. It has never happened. When we came it was GH475. What we have done is unprecedented,” he stated.
