The National Chairman of the People's National Convention (PNC), Samson Asaki Awingobit, has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to reconsider its decision to disqualify the party from the upcoming December 2024 presidential elections.
The PNC's flagbearer, Bernard Mornah, was one of 11 presidential aspirants disqualified due to errors in their nomination forms, specifically incomplete supporter details and the use of registered voters from one district to support nominations in other districts, a violation of electoral rules.
During an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on October 1 at which the EC admitted errors in the voters register, which it says are being worked on, Awingobit expressed disappointment at the disqualification of the party's presidential candidate, also based on 'errors'.

He argued that human errors are inevitable, just as the EC faces challenges with the voter register, stressing that the PNC, as a human institution, is also prone to errors and pleaded with the EC not to disqualify their candidate based on these errors.
Mr Awingobit also commended the EC for televising the IPAC meeting to ensure transparency, commending the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for advocating for this step.

Meanwhile, PNC flagbearer Bernard Mornah has filed a lawsuit against the EC, arguing that his disqualification was unlawful, violated his rights, and did not follow due process.
He is seeking a court order to compel the EC to reinstate him as a presidential candidate in the 2024 elections.
Additionally, the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has also taken legal action against the EC after being disqualified from the race.
