The Spokesperson for the Bawumia Campaign, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has stated that the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is determined to sign a pact to combat illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.
Mr Aboagye stressed Dr Bawumia's unwavering commitment to ending the menace.
In an interview on Joy FM’s Newsnight, Mr Aboagye highlighted that Dr. Bawumia has visited several mining sites over the past six months, more than any other political figure, to understand the issue firsthand.

"His position on illegal mining is very clear. He has repeatedly outlined specific strategies, evaluating what has worked and what hasn't since 2010. Based on this, he has proposed detailed processes that he believes can effectively end the problem. He is ready and willing to sign any necessary pact," he indicated.
This statement follows calls by the Media Coalition Against Galamsey, urging both the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to sign a binding agreement to tackle galamsey aggressively.
Reacting to Mr Aboagye's comments, the Convener of the Coalition, Kenneth Ashigbey expressed satisfaction, saying, "I am happy the Vice President is ready, and we are going to get that."
