JoyNews can confirm that illegal miners operating near the Anyinam Police Station in the Eastern Region have abandoned the site, leaving behind pits and gullies.
The illegal mining sites are located about 200 meters behind the station and a five-minute walk across the main Kumasi-Accra road.
The Ghana Police Service has come under strong public criticism after the Minerals Commission boss revealed that he had notified the police about illegal mining activities occurring behind the Anyinam Police Station.
Erastus Asare Donkor visited Anyinam and now reports.
