The Vice Presidential Candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh has passionately appealed to business organizations in the United States to give internship opportunities to Ghanaian students studying in their country.
He said scores of Ghanaian students are currently pursuing their educational goals in various universities in the US, and they (students) need internship opportunities to develop their skills.
Dr Prempeh stated that about 150 Ghanaian students are currently studying at the University of Memphis alone, an indication of the high number of Ghanaian students’ population in the US now.
“We have a lot of Ghanaian students who are currently pursuing their academic goals here in the US, and the University of Memphis alone has about 150 Ghanaian students now.
“These Ghanaian students need field experience through internships in business organizations here in the US to support their development, so I’m urging you to give them such opportunities”.
Napo, who was addressing members of the Memphis Chamber of Commerce as part of his visit to the US, said Ghanaians, generally, are disciplined and hard-working people.
In this regard, he said business organizations that would give opportunities to Ghanaian students for internships would never regret taking such actions, saying “Our students work hard”.
Napo also disclosed that there are a number of business opportunities in Ghana for US organizations to take advantage of and make a profit, so they should consider investing in Ghana.
He mentioned areas such as Information Technology (IT), petrochemical, pharmaceutical, and food processing as some of the areas that US businesses can invest in.
Napo said that aside from Ghana being a peaceful country, the NPP government has also created an enabling environment for businesses to flourish, and so US investors and businesses should take advantage.
