The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Mahama, has levelled accusations against the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for engaging in vote buying as the 2024 general elections approach.
He claims that NPP members have been distributing one-litre bottles of cooking oil to market women in various communities, a move he suggests is an attempt to sway voters.
Mahama contends that this practice is a reflection of the government's failure to address the economic challenges facing many Ghanaians, pushing them into poverty.
He believes that such tactics undermine the electoral process and exploit the vulnerabilities of citizens.
"They are going to bring money and this to buy your votes, please don’t be persuaded. I was watching a video and NPP in the market distributing a one-litre bottle of oil, the point I make is it is because you have impoverished the people."
“It is because you have pushed 870,000 Ghanaians below the poverty line that you can go and deceive them with a bottle of oil,” he said when addressing a crowd at Chereponi in the North East region on Monday, October 28.
