The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced the completion of a "robust and credible" certified final voters register for the upcoming 2024 general election.
In a formal presentation held on Wednesday, November 6, the EC provided soft copies of the certified final voters register to political parties, meeting their promised timeline for early November.
The EC’s Chairperson, Jean Mensa underscored the Commission's commitment to ensuring transparency and accuracy in the December polls saying, "We now have a robust and credible final certified voters register, which is fit to deliver a credible, transparent, fair, peaceful, and glorious election come December 7, 2024."
She highlighted that the EC’s timely preparation of the voter register was made possible “with the help of God” and expressed gratitude for the successful completion of this critical step in the election process.
During the last IPAC meeting on October 15, the EC assured stakeholders that soft copies of the certified register would be made available by the end of the first week of November. With the early delivery on November 6, the EC has provided political parties ample time to review the final voter data, reinforcing their dedication to an open and accessible electoral process.
Following a recent re-exhibition of the revised provisional voters register, the EC received a total of 158 issues concerning registered voters across the country, she said.
"I’m pleased to note that all the issues have been resolved, and as we speak, we have no further issues regarding the final voters register for the 2024 general election."
She further stated that the EC had provided political parties with a template to report any issues with the provisional register. Notably, no political party raised further concerns, underscoring the register’s acceptance and readiness.
