NDC Communication Director in Ashanti region, Abass Nurudeen has indicated the victory of Donald Trump in the US election is a reflection of a wind of change in Ghana in favor of the National Democratic Congress.
According to him, the re-election of former President Trump has defeated the claim of the New Patriotic Party that no one-term president can win elections in a democratic nation.
Mr Abass believes the Americans have shown Ghanaians the way to vote the NDC into power.
"If you look at the UK and America who are the beacon of democracy, they voted for change. The incumbent lost in elections and the same thing is going to happen in Ghana's 2024 elections. The Americans have shown Ghanaians the way to send the NPP to opposition because Ghanaians are fed up with the hardships," he told Nhyira FM.
Mr Abass observed similarities between Ghanaian and American elections based on the economy.
He said the Americans voted against the sitting Vice President based on poor economic performance which is worse under the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government, and believes this year’s election will be on the grounds of economic performance.
"The American election is similar to that of Ghana. They voted based on the state of the economy and Ghanaians are going to do the same. The Akufo-Addo and Bawumia government have destroyed the economy with high cost of living, cedi depreciation, galamsey among others and Ghanaians will vote based on the poor performance of the NPP," said the NDC communicator.
The New Patriotic Party has congratulated the Republican Party and also indicated its commonalities in terms of symbol and history.
According to Ghana’s governing party, anytime the Republicans win, the NPP wins.
But Abass Nurudeen has described the NPP as a confused party. He believes elections are not won based on symbols but on performance.
"The NPP should not jubilate over the Republican Party's win because they share similar Symbols. They also share similar colors with the Democrats who lost. Symbols don't matter in elections, it is about performance.
“The NPP is confused, they initially predicted a win for the Vice President of the US, Kamala Harris and likened that to Dr. Bawumia as a Vice President who will also win the elections in Ghana. Why are they claiming that the Republican win is a win for them? The Republican lost in 2020 but the NPP won so it is not a fact that the NPP is winning. It reflects more of a win for a former president than vice president," he said.
