Director of Communications for the Bawumia 2024 Campaign, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has remarked that Ghanaians are expressing relief for their decision not to re-elect John Mahama in the 2020 elections.
According to Aboagye, this sentiment is heightened in light of the recent re-election of Donald Trump in the United States, which he claims highlights a reconsideration of leadership choices.
Aboagye suggested that Ghanaians learned from what he described as an American “mistake” in 2020, where Trump was not re-elected due to a shift in voter sentiment.
He stated that, in his view, Mahama had similarly lost the trust of Ghanaians by the time of the last election, as they believed new leadership was necessary to address pressing national issues.
Speaking further, Aboagye explained that Trump's recent electoral victory was not solely due to his status as a former president but rather stemmed from Americans’ reflection on his leadership and their perceived error in not giving him a second term.
He argued that this dynamic mirrors the decision Ghanaians made with Mahama, choosing instead to look towards fresh leadership rather than returning to past administrations.
Aboagye concluded by asserting that Ghanaians are increasingly assured in their choice, viewing the Trump situation as an example of the value of sticking with proven leadership rather than reverting to former leaders.
He contended that the choice of President Nana Akufo-Addo in 2020 has been validated by Ghanaians’ sense of progress and desire for stable governance under the current administration.
"The Americans voted for Donald Trump because they realised the mistake they made by not retaining him in the 2020 election as a result of his challenges he had with Covid-19 and now Ghanaians are patting themselves at the back if we had also made that mistake by voting for Mahama like by now we will also been putting our hands on heads like Americans are doing with Kamala Haris and praying for Nana Addo to come back."
