The First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, has hosted the traditional priests, priestesses, and the warlords of the Ga State to thank them for their support towards the successful rule of her husband, President Nana Akufo-Addo over the past seven years.
She asked them to consider all the critical policies and social interventions introduced in the country by the NPP, which were changing and improving the lives of the citizenry and vote massively for the Party's flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and all the parliamentary candidates in the December polls.
Mrs Akufo-Addo also used the occasion to introduce Alma Naa Djama Adade-Prempeh, wife of the running-mate of the NPP Flagbearer, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, who is also native of the Gas, to the traditional priests and priestesses and asked them for their prayer and support for her as the incoming second lady.
Mrs Akufo-Addo enumerated many projects that she had undertaken through her foundation, the Rebecca Foundation, during the eight-year term of her husband to improve the lives of a lot of women and children.
She said she built the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH), the first to be built at the hospital after over 80 years of the existence of the facility, as well as the over 50-bed capacity of the Sunshine Hostel to serve as accommodation for parents and guardians of children with Cancers, as their wards receive treatment at the KBTH.
She added that 20 libraries have been built across the country by her foundation as well as many Crèches built around market centres to cater for children of the traders and market women, among other projects.
According to the First Lady, President Akufo-Addo had fulfilled many of his promises to Ghanaians and mentioned particularly the Free Senior High School programme, which had made it possible for all BECE candidates to freely access secondary education.
There is also the construction of fishing habours, and many others, which the Ga people have also benefitted from.
She said so far, in spite of the challenges Ghana, like many countries, went through due to the Russian-Ukraine war and COVID-19 pandemic, the country is moving smoothly and needed to be left in good hands like that of Dr Bawumia and Dr Opoku Prempeh to continue the good works of the NPP.
"Dr. Bawumia is the best bet for Ghana. We shouldn't let Dr Bawumia slip our hands," she told the gathering.
She promised to continue with her NGO work after she leaves office as the First Lady.
Mrs Prempeh, on her part, assured that when the NPP wins the elections, she would step in as the Second Lady and continue the good work that Mrs Akufo-Addo was doing for the Ga state and for all Ghanaians.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Elizabeth Naa Kwatsoe Tawiah Sackey, and the Municipal Chief Executive of Korle Klottey Municipality, Samuel James Nii Adjei Tawiah also addressed the gathering and appealed to them to go through the elections peacefully, adding that they should all vote for Dr Bawumia and the NPP parliamentary candidates to bring more development to the country.
