The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Mahama, has expressed concern over what he describes as politically motivated neglect by President Nana Akufo-Addo.

He has accused the President of ignoring various communities’ development needs based on partisan affiliations, a leadership approach he finds deeply disappointing.

In a Facebook post shared after he toured 14 constituencies in the Central Region, Mr Mahama reflected on his encounters with local leaders and residents.

Throughout these visits, he observed the state of development in each constituency and engaged with community members to understand their challenges, which he attributes in part to the current administration’s selective approach to governance.

Mahama claimed that certain areas have been overlooked simply due to their lack of political alignment with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which he criticised as "petty partisan political reasons."

He argued that such biases have left many communities underdeveloped, lacking adequate infrastructure, healthcare, and educational resources.

This, he said, has caused substantial harm to the well-being and opportunities available to residents in these areas.

The former President described his observations with a sense of pain, emphasising how affected communities face significant obstacles in accessing basic services.

Mahama expressed frustration over the lack of a fair approach, stating that the government’s neglect has undermined the prosperity and prospects of these citizens.

In his message, Mahama underscored the importance of fair and inclusive governance, condemning any policy or practice that punishes communities based on political leanings.

He reiterated his commitment to leading with impartiality and addressing the needs of all Ghanaians, regardless of political affiliation.

“After touring 14 constituencies in the Central Region so far, I cannot help but join the chiefs and people in condemning the neglect of our communities for petty partisan political reasons, as President Akufo-Addo himself has stated."

“It pains me to see our cherished communities grappling with the neglect of crucial development projects vital for their growth and well-being.”
