The Yendi Municipal Assembly, in consultation with the Dabon community, has decided to honor the late Alhaji Aliu Mahama by naming one of the Yendi stretches of the Eastern Corridor Road after him.
This, the assembly said, will serve as a gesture to honor Alhaji Aliu Mahama’s legacy and contributions to the northern region and Ghana as a whole.
In an exclusive interview on JoyNews' AM Show, the son of the late Vice-President, Farouk Aliu Mahama, expressed immense pride and gratitude for the recognition.
According to Mr. Mahama, it is an honoring situation to find himself in this honoured state, naming the Yendi stretch after his late father.
However, he said he was privileged to be a part of President Akufo-Addo and his vice president during the sword cutting of that stretch.
He also noted that, under the government’s investment in road infrastructure, Yendi has now been well-positioned to attain the status of a city.
Mr. Mahama elaborated that the president and his vice president’s investment in Yendi show that, indeed, Yendi has now been incorporated into cities in Ghana.
Mr. Mahama, further stated that his late father was the first Muslim vice president to hail from Yendi and the first Dagbon Dagomba to rise to become the first vice president from Yendi.
He said it is well-befitting to name the road stretch after his father.
“Every successful politician, not only my late father, from the first republic to the fourth republic indeed have shown that if you really worked hard for your people, the reward is always something that will do," he said.
