Phase one of the Heal Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) project termed the demonstration floors, is expected to be inaugurated and inspected by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II by the close of November this year.
Project lead, Samuel Adu Boakye, says the unveiling will allow the public and other stakeholders to appreciate the extent of work done so far under the renovation of the 70-year-old main Gee block.
Although mobilised funds for the project are currently about 40% of the $10 million target, roofing works, painting, and installation of wiring and toilet facilities are nearing completion.
A year after its grand launch in 2023, the Heal Komfo Anokye Project is gradually shaping up despite being hit by foreign exchange and import duties.
Not until now, the 70-year-old facility had no extensive renovation resulting in deterioration of the wards and offices.
Spearheaded by the Asantehene, the hospital which was in a debilitating state is now seeing some of its wards in advanced stages of refurbishment.
The project team is expediting works to have the first phase of the project completed by November this year for inauguration by the Asantehene.
Lead for the Heal KATH project, Samuel Adu Boakye explains the
“We are consciously optimistic about handing over the demonstration floors hopefully by the end of this month. Work is progressing steadily. We continue to ensure that this doesn’t affect patients' care. The first phase of the project is yet to be commissioned -that’s what I consider as demonstration floors,” he said.
He spoke during a tour of the facility and cash donation by the Ghana Hotels Association.
Forty percent of the 10-billion-dollar project has thus far been accrued.
The demonstration floors house some of the modern medical equipment and facilities that would ensure the best healthcare delivery to patients in the region and from across the country.
