Guinness Ghana DJ Awards' MC/Hypeman of the Year, MC Portfolio has outlined some of the activities and attributes that set him apart from his peers in the year under review.
In an interview with Roselyn Felli on Joy Prime on Thursday, November 14, 2024, the MC and media personality indicated that after losing out on that particular award on four occasions, he was happy the organisers of the scheme had finally recognised his hard work.
According to Portfolio, although a lot of his high-profile shows were not held in Accra, his influence in the event hosting space cannot be overlooked.
"…some of us are the few versatile ones who have registered some form of presence across, and so we've done some of the biggest events in the country but because maybe they are not hosted in the capital you might not know.
We've done some of the most enviable royal events in the West Africa, hosting Otumfuo's 25th anniversary concert, we've hosted the biggest all-black party, the most trending one which you know, we've hosted one of the biggest sports events, talking about Asamoah Gyan's sports stadium show, and talking about 'talkability', no MC has influenced pop culture more than Portfolio," he said.
He added that he fits the true definition of the MC/Hype man category in the Guinness Ghana DJ Awards for the year under review more than any of the MCs nominated in that category.
"Portfolio is one of the few versatile MCs that defines that category definition better in Ghana. We are talking about the MC/Hypeman of the year. This is the hybrid representation of the host culture. Someone who has registered a household brand in the prim and proper moderation bit of it, and the hypeman which is rave and funfair bit of it. I do both of them over the years with so much panache," he explained.
MC Portfolio was adjudged the Best MC/Hypeman of the Year at the 2024 Ghana DJ Awards held at the Palms Convention Center in Accra, Ghana on Saturday, November 9, 2024. He won this award jointly with Kojo Manuel, a radio presenter at YFM in Accra.
Meanwhile, Kojo Manuel has vented his displeasure at the joint award, stating that he believes he is the sole award winner of the category.
Speaking in a recent interview on 3 Music TV, he said: “I don’t believe there’s anything like a tie. I don’t think Ghana would have an election and say the NPP and NDC won. I never understand the notion behind the tie and I haven’t had any official statement from the Ghana DJ Awards on why that happened.”
“Everybody knows the work I’ve done the year under review so I don’t know what you’re comparing it to. Unfortunately, we’ve got to a point where you win an award and you have to explain yourself because someone else is,” he added.
The Guinness Ghana DJ Awards is organised by Merqury Republic.
