The Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) in charge of operations, Samuel Tettey, has confirmed that voting commenced at approximately 99% of polling stations across the country at 7am.
He made this announcement during a press conference held on Saturday, December 7, to update the public on the progress of the electoral process.
Speaking to the media, he expressed satisfaction with the smooth start to the elections, noting that logistical arrangements and preparations ensured polling stations were ready on time.
"We are pleased to announce that 99% of polling stations began voting promptly at 7am, demonstrating our commitment to a seamless electoral process," he stated.
He also highlighted the presence of adequate security personnel at all polling centres to maintain order and ensure the safety of voters and electoral officials.
According to him, the collaboration between the Electoral Commission and the security agencies has been pivotal in ensuring the smooth conduct of the elections so far.
The Deputy Chairperson urged voters to remain patient and adhere to the rules and guidelines at polling stations.
He expressed confidence in the Electoral Commission's ability to oversee a credible, peaceful, and transparent election.
