The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has secured a significant victory in Ayawaso Central, as Abdul Rauf Tongym Tubazu defeated the incumbent NPP MP, Henry Quartey, in the 2024 parliamentary elections.
Tubazu claimed the seat with 29,755 votes, outpacing Quartey’s 23,345.
Charles Kwame Adams of the National Democratic Party (NDP) trailed far behind with just 163 votes.
Out of the 53,550 total votes cast, 287 were declared invalid.
This win in Ayawaso Central marks part of a broader surge for the NDC, which also flipped key constituencies from the NPP.
In Mpohor, Henry Godfred Bentil of the NDC unseated the incumbent, John Kobina Abbam Aboah Sanie, with 11,680 votes to Sanie’s 8,299.
Similarly, in Sekondi, NDC’s Blay Nyameke Armah triumphed over Andrew Egyapa Mercer of the NPP, securing 14,558 votes (56.40%) against Mercer’s 11,084 votes (42.94%). A total of 25,813 votes were cast in Sekondi, with 171 rejected ballots.
These pivotal victories underscore the NDC’s increasing momentum in the 2024 elections, strengthening its parliamentary representation and reshaping the political landscape in critical constituencies.
