The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has called on Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to concede defeat in the 2024 presidential election.
Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, December 8, Mr Gyamfi urged Dr Bawumia to demonstrate democratic principles by calling the NDC's candidate, former President John Dramani Mahama, and formally acknowledging the party's victory.
He emphasised that this would be in the spirit of democracy and good governance.
Mr Gyamfi’s comments followed claims by the NDC that they had secured a majority in both the presidential and parliamentary elections.
He reiterated that Ghanaians had overwhelmingly chosen Mahama and the NDC to lead the country in the next term.
The NDC spokesperson added that the party was confident in its victory, citing internal tallies and party agents' reports.
He further stressed that the NPP must accept the results and allow the democratic process to proceed without hindrance.
"Dr Bawumia, you call yourself a digital man and I know that you have by now collated your results, and you know you have lost, call your senior brother President Mahama and concede defeat. Be a democratic and concede defeat now," he said.
