After a successful football gala with eight (8) teams on November 16th, the University of Ghana Sports & Wellness Directorate is ready to roll out the maiden University of Ghana Community Games (Football League) from February 2025 featuring sixteen (16) corporate teams.
Building on the success of the inaugural Community Games held in November 2024, this league aims to promote engagement, unity, and healthy competition among different groups within the university community.
The participating teams in the football gala included University of Ghana Enterprises Ltd (UGEL), The Union Ghana, College of Health Sciences and College of Basic & Applied Sciences, College of Humanities, University of Ghana Alumni Association, UG Central Administration and College of Education.
In an interaction with the media, Dr. Austin Luguterah, Director of the University of Ghana Sports and Wellness Directorate said, “we are optimistic of an exciting and successful league next year judging from the success of the gala.
We intend to start with sixteen (16) corporate teams in 2025 and will review at the end of the league. We had eight (8) teams in the gala so will add eight (8) more teams to complete the list.
He added that, this league is important as it brings together the community as well as groups and corporate institutions operating within the University community. For the various colleges, we are looking forward to seeing lecturers engage their colleagues from different colleges in the spirit of sportsmanship.
Yaw Sakyi Afari, Head of RITE Sports Services, producers and marketers of the University of Ghana Community Football League has expressed his joy to partner with the University of Ghana Sports and Wellness Directorate.
We find this league a great opportunity for businesses to connect with decision makers in both academia and corporate Ghana and an avenue for participating institutions to increase networking opportunities.
Games will be played on Friday evenings so will be a perfect hangout after a stressful week, Yaw Sakyi said.
More details of the football league will be unveiled in the coming weeks. Follow the games on Facebook, X and Instagram @UGGamesOfficial for more.
