The National Democratic Congress' (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Fanteakwa North constituency, Haruna Apaw-Wiredu, has been declared the parliamentary candidate-elect for the constituency.
The declaration follows protests by the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) candidate, Kwame Appiah Kodua, over disputed pink sheets from two polling stations. After the initial declaration was put on hold to address these concerns, the Electoral Commission (EC) has now announced Haruna Apaw-Wiredu as the validly elected candidate for the constituency.
Announcing the results at the EC office in Begoro, the Returning Officer for the elections, Zacharia Adams, stated that the NDC candidate secured 11,138 votes, defeating Kwame Appiah Kodua, who garnered 10,847 votes.

The election recorded a total of 21,985 valid votes and 581 rejected ballots.
Speaking to the media after his declaration, Mr. Apaw-Wiredu said "as a party, we did our own collation with the same sheets they gave to all of parties, so we were surprised that they told us they could not find the pink sheets but we thank God the EC has finally been able to produce the actual outcome of the elections."
Mr Apaw-Wiredu praised the constituents for rallying behind him during the elections.
While pledging to work to alleviate the many challenges facing the constituency, he called in his people to jubilate in moderation.
