The General Overseer of the Action Chapel International, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams has urged President-elect, John Mahama to work to ensure that Ghana's reputation is elevated as he assumes the highest office.

According to him, there are typically high expectations whenever new governments take over.

These come with some challenges which the clergyman believes put the country in a bad light.

Speaking during a courtesy call on the President-elect in Accra, Archbishop Duncan-Williams explained that "We want to pray and believe that in your time of office, the negative narratives that has plagued governments of this country will change during your time."

"And that we will see a new and beautiful Ghana by the grace of God," he added on December 17.

He also encouraged Mr Mahama to manage these expectations carefully, focusing on the long-term progress of the nation.

He stated that while many Ghanaians often view a new president as a saviour, Mr Mahama should be seen as a vessel in the hands of God.

The Archbishop urged the public to pray for their new leader instead of placing unrealistic expectations upon him.

Archbishop Duncan-Williams acknowledged the significant challenges Mr Mahama would face as he returned to office, recalling a past conversation with Mr Mahama when he was in opposition.

He recounted John Mahama expressing doubts about running for election, given the difficulties Ghana was facing at the time.

"I think that was when you realised that it was a call and mandate you have to fulfil,” Mr Duncan-Williams said to Mr Mahama.

The Archbishop also shared that he had spoken prophetically to Mr Mahama in the past, encouraging him to leave and return at the right time.

Reflecting on their earlier discussions, Archbishop Duncan-Williams recalled telling Mr Mahama in 2020 that the moment had not yet arrived for him to return to power but reassured him of his eventual victory.

“I was very confident that John Mahama would win the election, irrespective of what others said,” he added.

The preacher pledged his full support to Mr Mahama, promising that he and his team would guide and protect the President-elect, helping to steer the country forward according to God's mandate.
