With just a day to the end of 2024, celebrated Ghanaian playwright Uncle Ebo Whyte has shared a powerful and imaginative message to Ghanaians on how to embrace the upcoming year, 2025.
Sharing his nuggets on the Super Morning Show, on Monday, December 30, he captured listeners’ attention with an unusual approach: a fictional phone call to the incoming year, 2025.
As the host, Kojo Yankso played along, Uncle Ebo “dialed” 2025, introducing himself as a member of the committee tasked with welcoming the new year.
In his conversational tone, he explained that with 2024 nearing its end after a challenging year, the world was eager to know what 2025 had in store.
“Hello, is this 2025? I am a member of the committee set up to welcome you,” he began, setting the stage for a playful yet thought-provoking exchange.
But 2025 had an unexpected answer. It declared that it had no predetermined nature—that its character would be shaped by the choices and actions of individuals and societies.
The response surprised Uncle Ebo, who protested that people expected promises of blessings, prosperity, and good health. Yet, 2025 firmly insisted: “The kind of year I become depends entirely on how people live their lives.”
Uncle Ebo then asked the new year for advice on how humanity could create the great year they hoped for. In response, 2025 outlined a series of principles for living a fulfilling life.
Through the conversation, 2025 reminded people of the importance of taking responsibility for their own lives and the world around them.
Uncle Ebo used the call to stress the value of gratitude, imagination, resilience, and goodwill, presenting these ideas in a manner that felt fresh and engaging.
The call ended abruptly as Uncle Ebo humorously “ran out of airtime,” leaving listeners curious and reflective.
