Andre Ayew showed his appreciation to the Olympique Marseille fans following their support after his consolation goal against his boyhood in their league game over the weekend.
The 35-year-old was on target for Le Havre as they lost 5-1 to Marseille at the Velodrome on Sunday night in Ligue 1.
Ayew, who was taken out in the latter part of the game, failed to find words to describe the moments shared between himself and the home fans following the end of the game.
In a post-match interview with DAZN after the game, the Ghana international said: “Honestly, I want to thank all the people of Marseille. I am touched from the bottom of my heart."
"This club has given me so much. After the Padre and everything he has done, I have left my mark. It has always been my dream club."
Ayew was brought to tears on Le Havre’s bench after he was substituted to great cheers from the home team.
Ayew’s goal drew large applause from various sections of the stadium after he refused to celebrate against his old club before the 35-year-old was replaced in the 88th minute.
Ayew began his professional career at Marseille, spending eight years before joining Swansea City in the Premier League in 2015.
His goal against Marseille marked his first in nine Ligue 1 appearances for Le Havre, who have now lost five consecutive matches.
