The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore, has announced that President John Dramani Mahama will appoint new Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) within the next 14 days.
He disclosed this while addressing concerns about recent incidents of alleged vandalism and unauthorised takeovers of state institutions by individuals claiming to be NDC supporters.
Speaking to Citi FM on Wednesday, January 8, Ashie Moore revealed that the swift appointment of MMDCEs is part of a broader plan to restore order and ensure that the transition to the new administration is conducted smoothly.
He emphasised that President Mahama’s administration is committed to upholding law and order while protecting state institutions.
“Per our party’s machinery, this week we are also doing a screening of the nomination of the prospective candidates for those positions so I can promise the party people, especially what I know in my region, that hopefully if everything goes well by the close of the next 14 days, we will also have MMDCEs in place so they should cooperate with us,” he stated.
Ashie Moore also urged party supporters to remain vigilant and report any unlawful activities to the appropriate authorities.
He reiterated that the NDC does not support acts of vandalism or unauthorised actions and assured the public that measures have been put in place to restore calm.
"I have met with the regional police commander, and together, we are working to ensure law and order across the region,” he added.
The Regional Chairman further called on NDC members to be patient and cooperate with the authorities during the transition period.
He reassured the public that the party is committed to fostering a peaceful and transparent process as the new government takes shape.
"We are taking proactive steps to ensure that state institutions are protected and the right leadership is in place to address the needs of Ghanaians,” Ashie Moore concluded.
