The Minority in Parliament has called on President John Mahama to urgently address attacks on state institutions by supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), which have reportedly escalated following his inauguration.
The NDC supporters are alleged to have forcibly taken over key state installations and evicted some public officers from their official residences.
Addressing journalists in Parliament on Thursday, January 9, Deputy Minority Leader Patricia Appiagyei condemned the incidents.
“These actions are completely unacceptable,” she asserted. “Ghana is not a revolutionary state; it is a constitutional democracy. These acts are a blatant affront to the rule of law and the sovereignty of the Ghanaian people,” she added.
Madam Appiagyei expressed concern over the lack of evidence supporting the justifications for these actions.
She noted that perpetrators claim to be protecting public property from supposed mismanagement or threats by previous administration officials but have yet to file formal complaints or provide concrete evidence to substantiate their claims.
The Deputy Minority Leader urged the President to act decisively to restore law and order and ensure that all citizens uphold the principles of constitutional governance.
