President John Mahama says his government will continue and complete the construction of unfinished healthcare facilities to improve accessibility and the quality of healthcare in the country.
He said, "We shall continue abandoned health projects and operationalise them as key steps towards expanding healthcare access nationwide."
Speaking at the National Convention of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission at Winneba on Thursday, January 9, the president, who was sworn into office about two days ago, reiterated his commitment to the nation's health sector.
He further assured the people of Ghana, "We will prioritise investment in infrastructure and human resources to ensure accessible, quality medical care."
Before winning the December 7 election, Mr Mahama had promised to continue all abandoned projects in the country if he were given the mandate to lead.
In the health sector, Mr Mahama is expected to focus on completing the previous government’s Agenda 111 initiative, which aims to construct a total of 111 hospitals and three psychiatric hospitals across the country, particularly in districts that lack major healthcare facilities.
Out of the 111 planned hospitals, only three have been completed by the previous government but were not operational.
