Former Employment and Social Welfare Minister Austin Gamey has thrown his weight behind Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, expressing confidence in his ability to navigate Ghana’s complex economic challenges.

Speaking on Joy News’ Upfront on Thursday, January 9, he described Dr Forson’s qualifications and experience as ideal for steering the country’s fiscal policies in the right direction.

The labour consultant emphasised the importance of appointing individuals with deep expertise and practical experience in critical roles, praising Forson as a standout choice.

“You need people with a certain depth of knowledge and ability to add value to what you want to achieve,” he noted. “Ato Forson is a classic example of someone who fits the bill.

"He is a chartered accountant and an economist, and he has the kind of experience you can rely on, especially in a time like this.”

Highlighting Dr Forson’s background in fiscal policy, Gamey said, “We are talking about taxes, levies, inflation, forest management, and the general business environment—all areas where Ato Forson is extremely capable.

"His track record demonstrates that he understands these issues thoroughly and knows how to work with stakeholders to create solutions.”

The former Minister also praised the Ejumako-Enyan-Esiam MP’s ability to bridge fiscal and monetary policies effectively, a critical need in Ghana’s current economic climate.

According to Austin Gamey, Dr Forson’s experience in public service, including his roles as Deputy Minister of Finance, ranking member of the Finance Committee in Parliament, and now Majority Leader, positions him as a team player with the necessary leadership qualities.

“He has been in the ministry, in Parliament, and led critical discussions as a ranking member and now Majority Leader. This background gives him an unmatched understanding of the fiscal and economic landscape,” Mr Gamey remarked.

He underscored the need for collective support to ensure Dr Forson’s success. “All he needs is our backing and prayers to succeed. The challenges ahead are significant, but with his capacity, I am confident he will deliver,” he stated.

Mr Gamey called on Ghanaians to rally behind Forson and the administration, emphasising the importance of teamwork in addressing issues such as inflation, cost of living, and economic growth.

“We must focus on solutions and support the leadership we have. Dr Ato Forson is a proven team player who will ensure the entire environment is conducive for business and economic recovery,” he concluded.
