The home of former Minister of Youth and Sports and Member of Parliament for Yagaba/Kubori, Mustapha Ussif, has reportedly been attacked by individuals believed to be aligned with the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
This incident comes amid growing concerns about escalating insecurity in the country following the December 7, 2024, general elections.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday, January 22, Mr. Ussif voiced his deep concerns over the deteriorating state of security following the peaceful transition of power to President John Dramani Mahama.
“These hooligans have unleashed unrestrained mayhem on public institutions and innocent citizens,” Mr Ussif lamented.
“In my constituency, some miscreants attacked the district assembly office, locked up the place, and sacked all the staff. Just yesterday, some NDC violent youth invaded my house," he said.
Mr. Ussif criticised the government and the Ghana Police Service for their perceived inaction despite evidence of these violent acts circulating widely on social media.
"The Ghana Police Service watched this happen without any arrest. This act of violence are serious threat to the peace of our country.
"It is worrying the new government and the NDC has not been able to take any action to restrain their supporters from this act of violence across the country," he said.
He called on President Mahama to take immediate steps to either improve or maintain the security situation of the country.
"I want to therefore call on His Excellency the President to prioritise the security situation of our country by taking action over the increase in violence and lawlessness being displayed by his party members," he stated.
